Eating Disorder Recovery is Possible

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE AT WAR WITH YOUR BODY
YOU CAN BEAT YOUR EATING DISORDER AND FIND PEACE WITH FOOD

The world we live in creates the conditions for eating disorders and body image issues. Eating disorders have a voice that creates a story about our bodies and about food.

That voice says things like:

  • “Why can’t I stop binge eating?”
  • “I’m so weak. Why did I have that piece of cake?”
  • “I’m going to have to exercise off that dinner.”
  • “I hate my body.”
  • “I know this diet is going to work this time.”
  • “My life will be so much better when I lose the weight.”

That voice says things like:

  • Body checking and constantly looking in the mirror
  • Obsessed and preoccupied with food
  • In a state of food fear
  • Comparing ourselves to our friends
  • In patterns of over exercising
  • Avoiding connection because of anxiety over food

It makes sense that you feel like every meal is a battle, that looking in the mirror causes anxiety and ruins your day, that you feel trapped by your body and by food. The cultural fear of fat and obsession with thinness lives in all of us regardless of our body size.

Our experiences of food and body are deeply shaped by our social context. That means that your eating disorder isn't your fault. It's not a problem with your self-control or your willpower. It's a problem with the culture of fatphobia that leaves us food obsessed and without choice or agency.

Find Relief From PTSD

Our therapists offer treatment for eating disorders and body image issues. We’re right here to help you in the recovery process with:

  • Anorexia
  • Bulimia
  • Binge Eating
  • Emotional Eating
  • Calorie Restriction
  • Orthorexia
  • Over-Exercise

At the same time, we acknowledge that the mainstream eating disorder world has failed most of us who struggle with eating disorders, with food and with our bodies. Fat folks aren’t believed when they say they restrict. Folks of color are made invisible. Queer and trans folks are shunted into narratives of body acceptance that reinforce transphobia.

We offer something different:

A weight-neutral approach to reclaiming trust in your body and towards finding food freedom that is thoroughly grounded in the unique ways that social context has shaped you

Eating Disorder Recovery Starts Today

We understand that eating disorder behaviors have often helped us to survive in the face of trauma and oppression. Maybe food was a way you found safety as a kid. Maybe being at war with your body has helped you belong. Perhaps restricting gives you the dignity that the world doesn’t afford you.

We will work with you to:

  • Identify diet culture when you see it
  • Stop restricting and see food as nourishment
  • Beat the cycle of binge eating
  • Develop an intuitive and choiceful relationship to food and exercise
  • Stop emotional eating
  • Feel into the ways that diet culture has become internalized
  • Live life without food fear
  • Hold, reclaim, and uncover your body story
  • Begin to have a trustful and embodied relationship to yourself and others
  • Stop obsessing over food and your body
  • Develop weight neutral self-care strategies
  • Develop ways of surviving and thriving that aren’t about body hate

We can't be the selves and make the change we need in the world if we don't trust our bodies

You aren't alone.

Recovery is Possible. Food Freedom is Possible.
