Have Heart Healing and Wellness is a multidisciplinary group practice committed to collective liberation, healing justice, and belonging to a vibrant community of practitioners with shared values. We believe that healing is an essential piece of creating a more just and liberated world. At Have Heart, our practice focuses are: embodied trauma healing, healing from gendered violence, affirming care for trans, queer and nonbinary communities, and eating disorder and body image work from a body liberation perspective. We draw heavily on our interdependence, knowing that our clinical work is only strengthened by the relationships we have with one another.
We hold politicized somatics in the lineage of generative somatics at the center of our work. We practice somatics with each other to grow our capacity and our offer to each other and the world. We also engage in extensive training with one another to be able to offer this work to our clients. A politicized somatics is a somatics that asks us to align our actions with our values on both an individual and systemic level. It supports us to feel for and identify the root causes of our suffering and develop the embodied competencies to change those root causes in the here and now.
We are excited to bring on clinicians who are ready to make Have Heart their practice home for the long haul (5 years+). We welcome seasoned clinicians and newer clinicians alike, knowing that at Have Heart we hold a model of reciprocity in learning and growing in our skills as healers. This means that we expect newer clinicians to stay on past their licensure, even becoming supervisors and mentors to the next generation of politicized healers at Have Heart.
The ideal member of our team has a strong commitment to social justice values and practice, a working knowledge of experiences of systemic oppression, and has clinical experience working with eating disorders/disordered eating, somatic trauma therapy, as well as experience working inside of queer, trans, and gender non conforming communities. More importantly than that, we want folks who feel empowered in their lives to take action towards what they care about, to be a contribution to their communities, and who are on their own long-term path of healing, growth, and self and community inquiry.
Have Heart was formed out of the realization of how isolating, and often overwhelming it is to be in private practice. We wanted to address how hard it is to take time off, to support our clinical growth through continuing education, to pay for health insurance, and to get administrative support in a private practice setting. We knew there was a different way we could do things: inside of community and together. That’s how Have Heart was born. We hold that how we do this work is just as important as what the work is.
A big part of this how is centered on somatic practice. In our weekly team meetings, we practice the embodied competencies of being in deep relationship with one another, of feeling for our own power and agency, and of shaping the world through our sense of boundaries and offering our full truth into the space. We know that the world gives us one set of ideas about how to be at work and in a work place, and we want to do it differently with each other. We know this takes practice and repetition over time.
The core embodied competencies that we practice together are:
At Have Heart, we are committed to growing the embodied competencies to bring depthful and impactful politicized somatics to our clients and to our communities. We know that the body learns on repetition and on its own timeline. This is no different for us as practitioners engaged in healing work.
So much of the training available to us as healers focuses on methods or theory without asking the important questions of who and how will I be inside this work? We learn interventions, but don’t cultivate the embodied self that can weave them into the complex relational terrain of client work in ways that meet the people with whom we work.
At Have Heart we spend 16 days per year (yes, CEUs provided!) cultivating our skills, competencies, and sense of who we are in this work. We hold this as a path of development and practice rather than just another certification.
At Have Heart we want clinicians to be able to focus on seeing their clients, deepening their skills as clinicians, focusing on their own healing, and being involved in community. The container we’ve created has been thoughtfully shaped to meet those needs. In addition to competitive salary, all of our clinicians have access to:
