What You Need to Know Before You Start Work With Have Heart

How much will therapy or nutrition counseling cost, and will my insurance cover it?

When you decide to begin healing work, it is undoubtedly both a financial and time investment. For therapy or counseling to be effective, it is necessary for you to meet regularly with your clinician. We suggest weekly or biweekly sessions at a minimum.

Therapy and counseling are an investment toward the life you deserve. When you commit to your healing, you have the opportunity to heal your lineage both past and future.

One question you might ask yourself is can I afford to delay getting the help I need?

We will work with you to make this possible in a few ways:

1. We take debit and credit cards including HSA and FSA cards

2. We can advise you on how to potentially receive out of network coverage from your insurance carrier (read more on that below)

3. We can bill your Regence, Lifewise, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Premera, or First Choice (including some Kaiser PPO plans) insurance for nutrition counseling only

Mental Health Fees:

The cost for a 55 minute session is $160.

We offer 30% of our sessions at a reduced fee.

Please feel free to get in touch about that option if it would make your work with us more sustainable. Our reduced fee starts at $90.

We are considered out of network for all insurance plans for mental health.

We are more than happy to provide a bill to submit to your insurance company for potential out of network reimbursement each month.

If you do want to use your out of network benefits, you will need to verify coverage with your insurance carrier.

To verify your out of network coverage with your insurance company, you will need to ask the following:

  • Does my plan cover out of network providers?
  • What is my out of network deductible and have I met it yet this year?
  • Will you cover services by an associate level clinician?
  • What is the out of network reimbursement rate for the CPT code 90837?

Nutrition Fees:

Our fee for a first nutrition session is $200. Subsequent nutrition sessions are $175.

For nutrition counseling, we are in network with Regence, Lifewise, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Premera, Kaiser PPO and First Choice

If you would like to use your Regence, Lifewise, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Premera, First Choice or Kaiser PPO insurance for nutrition, please verify your benefits by calling your carrier directly.

We recommend you verify your coverage before our consultation call!

If you do not have insurance that covers nutrition counseling, please talk to us about our time of service discount!

How do I know if I'm ready for therapy or nutrition counseling?

That’s a really good question. At Have Heart, we believe that healing is for everyone and is actually about living the life you want and not about what’s wrong with you.

You’re probably ready for counseling if you know you need something in your life to change, even if you can’t name it yet.

You don’t have to do anything to prepare for counseling or nutrition work. Just show up, do the work, and commit to your own healing.

That means meeting with your provider regularly (preferably weekly, but at a minimum biweekly) at the ongoing appointment time they set aside just for you.

What else that means gets to be decided by you and your provider!

What kind of services can I get at Have Heart?

We offer individual mental health therapy and nutrition counseling for teens and adults 13 and older.

We specialize in:

  • Embodied trauma healing
  • Body image and eating disorders
  • LGBTQ+ affirming care

We are a practice of both mental health therapists and nutritionists.

Why don't you take insurance?

Have Heart Wellness is considered out of network for all insurance plans for mental health services. The short answer to why is:

We want you to get the most confidential and individualized care possible. We want to prioritize working with you, and not an insurance company.

The long answer: To have mental heath services covered by insurance, your therapist is required to give you a diagnosis based off of a book called the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). This book treats mental health concerns as pathology, or as something wrong with you.

This is fundamentally different than how we view healing at Have Heart. We aren’t interested in what’s wrong with you so much as what is getting in the way of you having the life you want. We know that a lot of what’s often getting in the way for so many of us is systems of oppression. The DSM doesn’t account for that. We’d rather not give you a diagnosis unless we absolutely have to.

Another issue with insurance is confidentiality. When you use insurance your carrier has access to your therapist’s session notes which contain your private health information. This allows your carrier to dictate the type and duration of care you receive.

We want you to develop a treatment plan with your therapist based of having the life YOU want, not what an insurance company says is right for you.

How long will I be in therapy or nutrition counseling?

The short answer: as long as feels right to you. Trauma and oppression take away our sense of choice and agency, and we want you to decide what’s right for you.

That being said, generally we find that long-term work produces the kind of life affirming change that can make a huge impact in your life. We suggest at least a year commitment to therapy or nutrition counseling. It takes time to settle in, understand your patterns, develop a relationship to your body and to what you care about, and to make new choices in your everyday life. We work with many of our clients for 5+ years!

We believe that healing isn’t a one time event. We promote a practice of committing to lifelong change. That means that sometimes you will decide to take rest stops along the way in your healing journey.

You are welcome to take as many rest stops as you like! Sometimes breaks are useful and necessary in integrating our healing.
