The world we live in doesn’t always support you in being the fullest version of yourself. The impacts of trauma and oppression take their toll on not only your material well-being, but also on your ability to show up for yourself, in your relationships, and in your community.
It makes sense that you’re feeling disconnected from what you care about and your sense of power and agency in the world. Systems of domination rely on you being disconnected from your body, from what you care about, and from others.
You might catch yourself thinking things like:
- “What if my past keeps running my life?”
- “Will this anxiety ever stop?”
- “I feel so alone. No one get’s it.”
- “This time, this diet will work.”
- “There’s no space for me to be who I really am.”
- “If I speak up or take that risk, I won’t belong anymore.”
- “Is it me, or is it capitalism?”
- “Will I ever be able to lead the life I want in this world?”
- What is my contribution right now? How can I continue when everything is so bad?”
- “If I just tried harder, things would be ok.”
You end up feeling lost, alone, and confused if there is a way forward, another way to be for yourself and for the people you care about. It makes sense that it feels that way. And it doesn’t have to.
